Job Posting: Heritage Districts Assistant
Heritage Foundation of Newfoundland and Labrador (Heritage NL) is seeking EI eligible applicants to work on its Registered Heritage District program. The position will require excellent written and oral skills in English, and will involve some travel to historic places and heritage districts in Newfoundland and Labrador. The Heritage Districts Assistant will provide research and support services for a variety of heritage projects dealing with the conservation of Newfoundland and Labrador’s architectural districts. The two main tasks of the position will be to:
1. Assist with architectural research and mapping projects in existing and proposed heritage districts and main street projects; assist communities with applications for new heritage districts; help research, write and prepare for the presentation of commemorative plaques for any new Registered Heritage Districts; undertake activities that build community capacity for sustainable heritage districts.
2. Assist with Municipal Outreach and work with incorporated municipalities to promote the importance of heritage designation; assist with published reports and community presentations on community built heritage, cultural tourism, and other heritage projects; assist Heritage NL staff with research and reports on historic places.
Deliverables
Complete a minimum of four architectural research and mapping projects related to heritage districts
Help organize a minimum of two events that build community capacity for sustainable heritage districts.
Participate in two to four events involving heritage communities
Research and write a final report on heritage districts and sustainability.
Previous experience with a heritage organization is an asset, as is a keen interest in architectural history, vernacular architecture, or heritage district planning. Good computer skills required, including ability to do online research, power point presentations, and word processing.
Applicants:
Must live in the province.
Must be Canadian citizens or permanent residents who can legally work in Canada.
Must meet the definition of EI eligible.
Must be approved by the department under Section 25 of the Employment Insurance Act.
Must have an employment plan that shows the JCP work experience supports a reasonable job goal.
